The Canadian National Standards for the Education of Children and Youth Who are Blind or Visually Impaired, Including those with Additional Disabilities provides important information about the unique learning needs of students who are blind or visually impaired. The essential disability-specific skills required for students who are blind or visually impaired (i.e., the Expanded Core Curriculum) are outlined in this document. Research indicates that to ensure students who are blind or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities, receive quality educational programs, thirteen standards need to be achieved.
