Description: Introductory music begins to play. As title page appears displaying BrailleNote Tutorial, Accessibility, Online Video Training Modules, Alberta Education. Narrator: This brief section will discuss how to turn on and off Braille and speech as well as one-handed mode. To restore speech I recommend going to the main menu dot 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 with space. From there go to the options menu O with space. R will take you quickly to review speech. The Braille display will say speech on request which means it will only speak when you want it to. We however want it to speak all the time, press N and enter for no then we have restored speech all the time. To turn the Braille display on or off first go to the options menu, O plus space. You can navigate back and forth until you find the right option or hit B to jump there. If we enter N and then enter it will turn the Braille display off. At this point it will go into some advance Braille setting options. If you want to exit you press E plus space or if we want to go back and we want to turn the Braille back on we press Y for yes and enter. Braille has been restored. Some of our students who use a BrailleNote may have only the use of one hand. This device can easily be switched to one handed mode. Turn the device off, hold down the backspace button or dot 7, turn the device back on. As it indicated to turn back to two handed mode turn off the device, press the enter button which is the opposite of what we did before and turn the unit back on. That would restore it back to two handed mode. While we’re still in one handed mode it’s special to note that if a person is only using one hand to enter the spacebar becomes very vital. If you’re trying to enter the main menu you would press the spacebar first then enter your dots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 followed by the spacebar again. Basically if you’re doing a command that requires the spacebar you press the spacebar first, enter your command and then complete the command press the spacebar again. If you where typing in a document and you wanted to enter a word, press the word you want first then press spacebar as a confirmation. Even if entering the spacebar in a document in-between two words you want a spacebar you would have to press the spacebar once to make it and once more to confirm. Also the enter button. If you wanted to go to a new line you would press enter and then spacebar. However for speed of navigation I might recommend using the thumb buttons at this point as you do not need to confirm each one with the spacebar. Description: End of video.
