Description: Introductory music begins to play. As title page appears displaying BrailleNote Tutorial, Visual Display – Computer, Online Video Training Modules, Alberta Education. Narrator: This section will deal with how to connect your BrailleNote to a visual display. In addition to connecting your BrailleNote to a Palm Pilot as a visual display you can also directly connect your BrailleNote to a computer. If your computer has a serial port on the back side or also has Blue Tooth you can connect the BrailleNote. In this case my laptop has a serial port. We’re going to connect the two and then turn on the program that is available through the Human ware website. KeyView can be downloaded from the support section and is very useful in displaying what is on the BrailleNote. To begin connecting the two requires the serial cable that’s available in the box. There is only one place in the back of the BrailleNote to connect it. With the software already installed I’ll just turn it on the computer. The first prompt is going to ask you which communication port or com port is connecting to the BrailleNote and then in this case it’s com port 1. We need to turn on the visual display on the BrailleNote. We’ll do this by going to the options menu, O plus space and then V for visual display. At this point I’m going to select S for Serial. If you’re trying to connect via Blue tooth whether it was the Palm Pilot or to a laptop computer or desktop you would need to hit B. In this case it’s S, hit enter and we’re done. As you can see on the screen it now displays main menu. Wherever we navigate now we’ll see the print equivalent on the screen. KeyWord menu also appears on the top and we can navigate through. You will note the entire document appears on the screen and a special note. The software will recognize how many Braille keys are available on your BrailleNote. This way the sighted individual, the teacher assistant or the teacher can not only monitor what is being printed but also ensure the student is using correct Braille. Description: End of video.
