Description: Introductory music begins to play. As title page appears displaying BrailleNote Tutorial, Book Reader, Online Video Training Modules, Alberta Education. Narrator: This section is on the book reader. From the main menu you can either navigate to the book reader menu or hit B. At this point unless you have a book already saved and stored on your BrailleNote I’m going to have to insert the SD card. At this point to navigate to the SD card as an alternate storage drive I press the backspace. This is also found in the word processing menu in order to access another drive. At this point I’ll press spacebar to navigate through my list. I could also press S for SD card. We’ll press enter. At this moment I had not created any folders so we’ll press enter. I’ll press spacebar to get my list. List of all books in folder-Hannah’s Suitcase, HP VII.brf which stands for Harry Potter book 7 in Braille format, Z for Zachariah.txt, and another leisure reading book used at high school level Z for Zachariah. This one in txt format. The first one Hanna’s Suitcase is actually saved in the format that’s used on a BrailleNote. The other two are alternate formats. All three are able to be opened both in word processing and in book reader. The advantage of opening a file like this in book reader as opposed to word processing is you will not accidently erase or add to the file whereas if you opened Hannah’s Suitcase for example in word processing you might easily erase something by accident or add additional characters while you are reading the story. Let’s select one of our files Harry Potter for example. When it asks you to review the previous options as this particular file is not a BrailleNote keyword format file it will ask if I want to convert it or modify it in some way. So when it asks to review options if I say yes I will be converting it or altering it. At this point I’m actually going to select no as I don’t think this will make much difference when I am going to read the file. I could navigate line by line or I can have it auto-read for me if I do 1 2 4 5 which is G plus space it should auto-read. To pause similar to the media player by hitting both the backspace and enter button will pause. To continue reading go back to your G plus space command. You can also fast forward through your book using other commands such as to move ahead by paragraph press dots 5 and 6 with space. Alternately to move back you would hit 2 and 3 with space. To go ahead by one line dot 4 and space. To go back 1 and space. To go ahead by one word press dot 5 and space and of course to go back a word it will be 2 and space. Finally if you just want to hear the spelling for example the word and you want to go character by character dot 6 and space would go individually and repeating back would be dot 3. You can also increase the volume, decrease the volume and do more advanced features such as bookmarking your place for future reference. For those and other types of navigation skills you can use in book reader please refer to the help file by pressing H with space. Description: End of video.
