Narrator: This section will deal with how to connect your BrailleNote to a visual display. There are times where a visual person such as a teacher assistant or the teacher would like to follow along with the student as they type. This is possible using a visual display. A Palm Pilot is included with every Learning Resources Center BrailleNote. Please make sure both units are fully charged and the Bluetooth needs to be activated on both. In the case of the Palm Pilot the on button is at the top and it requires a stylus in order to touch the screen or you may use your finger. We’re going to go to the home screen and there is a setting called blue tooth. Make sure Bluetooth is switched to on and also importantly discoverable needs to be switched to yes and that way the BrailleNotes can find the Palm Pilot when the Bluetooth is charging. This can be set aside for the moment now. We also need to turn Bluetooth on in the BrailleNote. Just as a note- Bluetooth takes up more battery power so if you are not connecting through your Bluetooth I recommend you leave it off. Connectivity through Bluetooth is found in the options menu. O plus space, now hit C for connectivity or navigate through your menu. You may navigate again to find Bluetooth or hit b to jump to there. You would select Y for yes, and we’re waiting. At this point it’s going to ask to search for the device. We’re going to switch back to the Palm and get it ready. We go back to the home screen and you note there is an icon for BrailleNote. Tap on that. Along the bottom you have different sizes of fonts you can select. The clear button will wipe everything off the screen so you’re not confused what may be on there from a previous session. There is a connect button. The one you want to press at this point is the little hourglass and inside the hourglass is the Bluetooth symbol. A prompt screen will appear. It will explain what to do. When it connects you’re going to press done. Now we’re going to switch back to the BrailleNote. If we don’t remember what it said we’ll hit R with the spacebar to repeat. At this point we’ll press Y for yes to search. This may take several seconds. Excellent. At this point you’ll note the Palm Pilot has found a connection in progress. The BrailleNote asked, Anything that is connected previously is retained in the memory. To find the list of devices that it’s trying to connect to, press the spacebar. In this case we’re looking for the name of the Bluetooth device which in the Palm Pilots case is E2. Perfect. At this point you press either enter if it said it was not already active and since it was we press done on here. Once the two devices have found each other the BrailleNote will say authentication code. At this point no code is required, just press enter. Alright. Now at this point you will note that there’s nothing displayed on the Palm. We need to tell the BrailleNote to send information to the visual display. Go to the option menu, O with space. Hit V for visual display. At the moment it’s off. Your choices are either serial so S. In this case we’re looking for B for Bluetooth. Hit enter and visual display. It will ask what device to select, hit spacebar, perfect. Hit enter. Now we are able to see what I am typing on the BrailleNote on the visual display.
