Description: Introductory music begins to play. Title page appears, PAC Mate Basics, Using the Internet, Online video Training Modules, Alberta Education. Narrator: Hi my name is Ryan. This module is called Using the Internet. There are two types of connections that you can use on your PAC Mate to connect to the internet. The first is a compact flash wireless card which plugs into the back of the PAC Mate and is made by Socket. The second option is using an Ethernet network card again that plugs into the compact flash slot on the back of the PAC Mate and then your cable for your DSL or cable line plugs into the jack on the end of the cable. In order to start using the internet on the PAC Mate we’re going to open the start menu. To do that we press F4. We can press I for internet. The PAC Mate automatically opens up to a default home page. In order to type in a location of a website we like to visit we type a letter G. So it gives you the current address of the website you’re on. At this point I can just start typing in a new address and press enter. Right now the PAC Mate’s beeping to tell us that it’s looking up a new website. The website comes up and the PAC Mate starts reading from the top of the page down to the bottom. There’s a few different ways you can navigate using your PAC Mate. The first is you can press the tab key which is Dots 4, 5 and the space bar to move forward from link to link. That moves you forward through the page. If I wanted to move backwards I could hit shift tab which is Dots 1, 2 and the space bar. You can also bring up a list of links to make navigating a little bit quicker. To do that I’m going to type the letter H with the space bar and type and L for links. So put all of our links in a list now and it told us that there is a hundred sixty-one of them. Now that I’m in the list I can just press my up and down arrow to move from link to link. When I find the link I’m interested in I can press enter. Again we’re getting progress tones to tell us the PAC Mate is loading the new website. So now I want to add this page to my favorites. To do that I’m going to press F2 to open the menu bar and press my down arrow and press enter on menu and press our down arrow again. There is favorites so we’re going to press enter and we’re going to press tab. So there is multi-tabs in this dialogue box so we’re going to press the right arrow and it takes us to the add delete tab. So now we can press tab to move into that dialogue and press tab again. There is the add button so we’re going to press enter. So it puts the name of the site into your favorites. You can rename that if you like or you can just keep that name which I’m going to keep and tab again and tab again. So we press enter on add. Now I’m going to do a search on the internet using the Google search engine. I’m going to type a letter G for go and type in the website Google and press enter. Now that we’re on the website of Google we can navigate this page like we did on other websites using the tab key to move from link to link. We can press Dot 4 and the space bar to move down a line or move up a line with Dot 1 and the space bar or if we just want to do a search for something we can type a letter F which will jump us to the first form field on this website. Now that we heard it say edit we need to go and do what’s called forms mode so that we can start typing what it is we’d like to search for. To turn forms mode on we press enter. Now that we heard it say forms mode on we can type in our search string. So we’re going to type in capital city of Spain and press enter. So we hit enter on our search string and a new website has come up with a list of our search results. To find our search results I’m going to press tab. There is Madrid which is a Wikipedia article. Information about Madrid capital of Spain so that make sense to me, I’m going to press enter on that one and now the PAC Mate processed that link and a new website should be up. Again we can navigate this page by hitting the tab key or our Dot 4 and space bar to move down line by line or we can also type a letter N which will take us to a block of text that’s not a link so I’m going to press N now and I’m going to type N again and N again. There’s some advertising on this website about Madrid and there will be more information about the capital of Spain here. This concludes the Using the Internet module.
